STURP - The End of an Era....
In the week of this Newsletter going to press, the following press release was received, via Isabel Piczek, from attorney Mike Minor, acting as legal representative for STURP (Shroud of Turin Research Project), the team of some twenty-four American scientists who worked on the Shroud in 1978:
PRESS RELEASEThomas F. D'Muhala, formerly President of the Shroud of Turin Research Project Inc. (STURP), has announced that after many years of scientific testing and study, the scientific organization has successfully achieved its purpose, and STURP has been dissolved.
STURP was organized in 1978 and conducted the hands-on scientific testing on the Shroud of Turin in the same year. Subsequently the team members exhaustively analyzed the data gathered in 1978 and published their findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Perhaps the most significant findings were that the Shroud image is not an artefact, and that the image was formed by a still unknown mechanism, and that there is human blood on the Shroud.
This announcement in fact merely formally confirms a situation that has existed for more than three years. STURP's official charter was dissolved by the Secretary of State for the State of Connecticut on 1 October 1993.
